The '61 Caddy Drag Car is Back! RollCage and Rearend Install: Finnegan's Garage Ep. 125

MRC Fabrications is making quick work of the chassis on my 1961 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, a car that I hope to run 8 seconds in the 1/4 mile and also go 200 mph with at a landspeed racing event. In this video we are going to install a full-floater rear axle from Quick Performance, finish the rear frame section, and custom build a rollcage. There's a lot going on and it all happened in 3 short days! The next time you see the car we should be installing the coilovers and finishing the cage. Then we build a floor and take her back to my garage to finish the build. Thanks so much for watching!

Those down hand vert. welds are not nearly as strong as a flat weld. Why did they weld them down hand????

Could you have used Roll Cage Bolt-together Joints so you can take parts of the roll cage out?

I remember a preacher who drove a 1965 Cadillac coupe with all white interior. The first time I saw that all white and padded interior all I could think of was a casket.

A full float rear end is pretty bad-ass on a drag car. It is amazing how strong and how much easier they are to maintenance. No jacks, no nothing. You can swap axles in less than 5 mins. The Caddy is gonna be sharp

I dig this build but think you should have started off with a sedan since a functional adult sized back seat is such an important part of this build.

I love that there are no welding experts in the comments ripping apart the "super easy" welds and that mig is a push process not a pull, etc, etc.

That is a $50k-80k chassis for us normal folk... Congratulations Finnegan to be able to own something like this in the end is an absolute treasure.

Awesome work but I still think a 4 door would have been better so an adult would have a shot at crawling into the back seat. At least it can be used for storage when the trunk gets consumed with the fuel cell, nitrous bottles, tubs and intercooler reservoir and possibly meth tank. Lol

Okay Finnegan, I am going to comment on your episode about your wife's Elco when you had to replace the front right wheel and tire. During the Q&A at the end of the show you said that your shop's ceiling aren't high enough for a lift. Well, here's a suggestion, you do a lot of work outside so why not put in a lift outside one that is high enough for you to get under when it's at full lift. During inclement weather have a thick cover made for it and cover it up. I think it would also make it easier to load car's too. Point the car out, once the work on the lift is done, let it down load up and go. JMHO

I can't believe that with that beautiful bluco table set up to have the ability and tools to do wonderful things, they weld vertically downhill. And you approve. If they were as skilled as you claim, they should have laid that out on that table and welded that as a V with perfect penetration on both pieces at the same time and laid down an even prettier well and really "stacked dimes". I am really worried about your safety with over 1,000 ponies going to the rear and those big tires. Check their welds to the welds on the rear end housing and tell me which is stronger. Quick performance doesn't F around.
